Blair wins RUSH Tour event plus Super Late Models!

Burch wins McGarvie Memorial, Eicher, Miller, and McGuire also score big!

Hammett, PA (June 10, 2018) — Max Blair went to Victory Lane twice at Eriez Speedway June 10, once with the Bonnell Auto Group RUSH Crate Late Model Tour, and once driving his father’s (Rob Blair) mount as he had severely damaged his own Friday at Thunder Mountain Speedway.  The Plyler Entry Systems Super Late Model event was a side by side battle between Blair and  Dave Hess Jr that had the crowd on their feet cheering most of the race. Casey Burch made an infrequent visit to Erie and took home the win in the Dan McGarvie Memorial for the Challenger class.

In other action Gary Eicher led the entire distance to win the Ran Den Excavating E-Mods while Kyle Miller won the Johnson’s Car Car Economod feature. Defending champion Chris McGuire collected another Nelson Lynwood Nursery and Gift Shop Street Stock feature win.

Dennis Lunger and Gary Eicher started the Ran Fen Excavation E-Mod feature at the front of the field with Eicher shooting out to the immediate lead and Troy Johnson coming to second from fourth at the green and challenging for the led. At lap five Jarrod Silvis spun, slowing the field under yellow. At the restart Lunger came back to second with Johnson again fighting for the spot but going wide in turn four and slipping back behind Joel Watson. At halfway Johnson got back by Watson and began working on Lunger again, getting by at lap fifteen. Two laps later Watson also got by Lunger. Eicher went on to the win by half a straight over Johnson, Watson, Lunger, and John Boyd.

The Dan McGarvie Memorial for the Niemeyer’s Garage Challengers started with Casey Burch and Nichole Condron on the front row with Burch jumping out to a big lead at the start . In turn one Roger Hall began smoking heavily and he was done for the night. By four laps complete Burch was a quarter lap ahead of second running John Szeleznick but Mitchell Rex was challenging for the spot at six complete. At eight laps Burch had a full half lap lead. With three laps left Shawn McBride came to a stop in turn two, totally enveloped in smoke, the victim of apparent engine failure. With only the top three cars left on the lead lap, Burch went on to the win when the race resumed, by a half straight margin over Szeleznick, Rex, Zack Eller, and Jeff Nunemaker.

Jason Knowles and Max Blair brought the 30 lap RUSH Touring Series feature for the Bonnell Auto Group RUSH Crate Late Models to green with Jeremy Wonderling and John Waters in row two. Knowles led to the back straight but Blair was ahead of the pack at the end of one lap, then began lapping the backmarkers at only six laps. At seven complete Andy Proper spun into the infield at the end of the front straight after contact with another competitor. After green again flew Jeremy Wonderling got by Knowles with John Waters fourth. At nine laps Bill Kessler spun in turn two and was collected by Khole Wanzer and Andy Proper. With the double file restart Wonderling was on the high side and led lap eleven after running side by side with Blair on lap nine. Wonderling barely led lap 13 and had a one length lead at fourteen. Blair edged back to even with Wonderling at lap 16 with Wonderling back to the lead at seventeen. At twenty complete lapped traffic came into play with Blair getting by the back markers as Wonderling was slowed by the first car going a lap down. Blair then opened up a half straight lead with five to go. Caution flew at that point when Scott Gurdak spun in turn three. Blair chose the outside lane for the restart and drove away when the race resumed. With three to go Darrell Bossard was working on Wonderling for second. Blair won by half a straight over Wonderling, who nosed out Bossard for the runner-up spot. Jason Genco was fourth with Knowles fifth.

Max Blair and Mike Wonderling were the front row for the Plyler Entry Systems Super Late Model feature with Blair rocketing out to the lead and fourth starting Chad Wright coming to second, then Dave Hess getting to second at lap two and taking the lead just as caution flew, eliminating the pass. On the restart both Wright and Hess got by Blair but Andy Boozel spun in turn one, again returning Blair to the lead for the restart. Blair led again but Hess again grabbed the lead in turn two just as Matt Urban, Darrell Bossard, and Wendell Pinckney all spun in turn four, yet again restoring Blair to the lead. At lap five Hess was even with Blair at the line but went wide in turn-one, falling back to third behind Wright. A lap later he was back by Wright but Blair was lengthening his lead. Steve Kania spun coming out of four at lap twelve, suffering a flat left front tire. This start saw a three wide race for the lead out of turn two among Blair, Wright, and Hess but Brandon Groters spun when he got to turn two. On the next green Wyatt Scott got sideways in turn two with several cars getting out of shape but only Scott coming to a stop. Blair continued to lead with Wright challenging but to no avail as by lap fifteen Blair was beginning to pull away. Hess Jr settled into third with Bump Hedman fourth and Matt Urban back up to fifth. Blair went on to a quarter lap lead at the checkers over Wright, Hess, Hedman, and Urban.

Matt Alexander and Zack Lenard brought the Johnson’s Car Care Economod feature to green with Alexander leading lap one. Clint Smith spun in turn four for the first caution. Alexander again led with Kyle Miller second and Lenard third. Gary Olson spun in turn one at six laps, again slowing the field. Again Alexander led with Eric Reinwald right behind and Miller now third. Miller was back to second at eight laps complete. At four laps left in the event Miller got by for the lead then stretched his advantage until the white flag when Clint Smith wound up in the outside retaining wall on the back straight, setting up a one lap dash to the checkers. On the final lap Mitch Wright got by Alexander for second with Steve Simon fourth and Lenard fifth.

The Nelson-Lynwood Nursery Street Stock feature saw John Boardman and Shane Applebee on the front row but Kyle Couchenour spun into the outside wall in turn one, slowing the field for the first time. Boardman led from green with third starting Chris McGuire second until the next caution when Brent Crandall spun in turn two. McGuire then took over and led Boardman with the next slowing at lap six for Garrett Calvert, spun in turn two. Then a double spin involving Paul Nelson and Joe Rohrer, but both righted themselves and continued with no caution necessary. Nelson again spun at lap eight. Three more cautions were needed over the remaining laps, once more for Nelson, once for Kyle Schreckengost, and once for a tangle with Michael Reed and Garrett Calvert. McGuire went on to the win over Boardman, Shane Applebee, Bill Applebee, and Anthony Marotto.
