Briggs and Boardman open “Bob Rohrer’s September Sweep” with wins!
RUSH Crate, E-Mod, Economod, and Challenger features set for Sunday night Grand Finales!

Hammett, PA (September 22, 2018) — Bob Rohrer’s September Sweep had its genesis in the mind of the famed track owner in 2013 as a fitting way to end the season with a major 2-day event. This year’s event was jointly sponsored by Plyler Entry Systems and Bonnell’s Auto Group and featured all six regular season classes with the Plyler Entry Systems Super Late Models and the Nelson-Lynwood Street Stocks running a full card of heats and features on Saturday while the other classes ran heats only with features scheduled for tonight (Sunday, starting at 4:30 PM). When the checkers had fallen it was Boom Briggs in the Plyler’s Entry Systems/Bonnell’s Auto Group Victory Lane and John Boardman in the Nelson-Lynwood Street Stock Victory Lane.  Line-ups were set for tonight’s feature events for the Bonnell’s Auto Group RUSH Crate Late Models, the Ran Den Excavating E-Mods, Johnson’s Car Care Economods, and the Niemeyer Garage Challengers. The Plyler Entry Systems Super Late Models and the Nelson-Lynwood Street Stocks will each run a complete show of heats, B-Main, and a feature.

Pat Fielding and class champion John Boardman brought the 20-lap, 24-car Nelson-Lynwood Nursery Street Stock feature to green with Boardman leading at the end of one lap when Chris Withers spun in turn three, slowing the race under yellow. At the next green Boardman took off to the lead with Jason Longwell second at the end of lap two when Gary Fisher slowed in turn four with front end damage. At the end of lap three Ron Boardman, Brian Crandall, and Kyle Couchenour tangled on the front straight after Jason Covey slowed coming out of turn four. All three involved needed towed pitside. Again, only one more lap was in the books when Rod Laskey slowed to a stop in turn two. Boardman, Longwell, Pat Fielding, Jason Black, and Garrett Calvert brought the field back to green. At the end of seven laps Calvert spun in turn two with Jason Covey spinning to avoid contact with Withers managing to stop before contact. Before the field got to green Michael Miller and Mike Reed got tangled and slid into the infield. In turn one after green Reed again spun. During the yellow laps it was discovered that Eric Wilson was driving the Longwell machine instead of the registered driver. Wilson was sent pitside for not notifying the officials of the driver change. Boardman continued to lead after green with Fielding now second, Black third, Chris McGuire fourth, and Joe Rohrer fifth. Wit five to go Boardman had a quarter lap lead over Fielding with Black taking over second at the end of seventeen. McGuire came to third at eighteen but Schreckengost and Rohrer made it a three wide run for third on the final lap.  At the finish it was Boardman winning his fifth of 2018 over Black, McGuire, Schreckengost, and Rohrer.

Doug Eck and Boom Briggs brought the Plyler Entry Systems 35-lap, $4011 to win Super Late Model feature with Briggs, the most recent feature winner, leading the way for the first two laps. Dan Angelicchio spun in turn tow on lap three. Briggs, Eck, Alex Ferree, Dave Hess Jr, and Chub Frank were the top five for the restart. Ferree and Eck fought over second until Ferree held the position at eight complete. Hess got by Eck at the end of nine then fell back behind him at ten laps. At sixteen laps Hess got by Eck again with the two making contact. Even though nobody stopped, the starter threw the yellow. The front five for the green were Briggs, Ferree, Eck, Hess, and Frank. Hess and Eck made contact again at eighteen laps with Eck slowing and yellow again appearing. Under the yellow Eck pulled sideways in front of Hess and was sent to the pit. The top five were now Briggs, Ferree, Hess, Greg Oakes, and Frank. Oakes came on strong after green, taking second at 22 laps compete. With ten to go it was Briggs by five lengths over Oakes, Hess, Max Blair, and Frank. With two to go David Scott got by Frank for fifth. At the checkers it was Briggs over Oakes, Blair, Hess, and Scott.
