Eriez pioneer was a fan favorite.
Hammett, PA (June 14, 2017): The 1983 Late Model Champion at Eriez Speedway was the then very familiar #29 of Erie’s own Dick Litz. Litz compiled sixteen wins at Eriez plus many other wins at area tracks over a career with started back in the 1950s. Eriez will remember the early star this week with a ULMS sanctioned 29-lap Plyler Overhead Door Super Late Model feature that will pay $2900 to win. The race will be a points-paying ULMS event and will be the second event on the I-79 Tour for the series. Max Blair, who suffered a devastating crash last Sunday, was the 2016 champion of this event. Blair is expected to wheel the number Won11, his father’s mount, for the event. Front runners will possibly include past track champions Bump Hedman, Chris Hackett, Rich Gardner, Matt Urban, and Dave Hess Jr, the current points leader. Other front runners will likely include Greg Oakes, Darrell Bossard, Steve Kania, Bobby Rohrer, and Chad Wright. Jared Miley and Damian “Half Pint” Bidwell, and the rest of the ULMS Close Racing Supply Elite Drivers should also be on hand to compete for the glory.
With the Bonnell Auto Group RUSH Crate Late Models running a touring race Sunday it was decided that the division will race in a non-points paying event. The regular purse will be paid. Front runners are expected to be defending track champion and current points leader Jason Genco, the opening night winner, Andy Boozel, last week’s winner, as well as Kyle Zimmerman, another past champion, Max Blair, and Wyatt Scott.
Joel Watson is the current Ran-Den Excavating E-Mod points leader and has dominated the first two events. Other top runners include David Scott, Ken Zimmer, Mike McGee, John Boyd, and Troy Johnson.
Brandon Blackshear and Dustin Eckman are the early season winners in the Conway & O’Malley Tires and Service Economod action. Geoff Conn, Mitchell Wright, and Keith Felicity are other front-runners.
The Nelson Lynwood Street Stocks have Chris McGuire leading the way. He and his uncle, Don McGuire have each been to Victory Lane. Brandon Groters and Jimmy Kennerknecht, both proven winners will be there to try to wrest Victory Lane from the McGuire family.
The Kandy’s Gentlemen’s Club Challengers will be in action with their usual show of exciting right to the checkers brand of racing. Andy Proper, the defending champion, is winless thus far this season at Eriez but that likely will soon change. Davey Lowe was the opening night winner with John Zeleznick first to the line last week. Spencer Marcy, Jeff Nunemaker, Gary Troyer, and Chris Horton will be among the front runners vying for the win.
