Max Blair is Dick Litz Memorial Winner!
Watson, Rhoades, Kennerknecht, and Zeleznick also add to win totals!
Hammett, PA (June 17, 2018) — The annual Dick Litz Memorial for the Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series paying $2900 to win the 29-lap feature for the Plyler Entry Systems Super Late Models was run in honor of one of the all-time fan favorites who sadly passed from life in 2009. For most of his career Litz used the number “29” on his late models. At the end of the night it was Max Blair in the Plyler Entry Systems Victory Lane for the second time in 2018, Joel Watson in the Ran-Den Excavating Victory Lane for the second time in 2018, and Ty Rhoades, also his second win of the season, in the Johnson’s Car Care Economods Victory Lane. Scoring their first wins of 2018 were Jimmy Kennerknecht in the Nelson Lynwood Nursery Street Stocks, and John Zeleznick in the Niemeyer’s Garage Challengers. It was Blair’s third Zimmer Service Center/ULMS win of the 2018 season.
The Ran-Den Excavating E-Mods were the first feature on the track with Casey Bowers and Joel Watson on the front row. Bowers led till turn four of lap one when Watson went by on the outside. Yellow flew in turn one of lap two when Bubba Cetell Jr spun and collected Brandon Grossman and Jarrod Silvis. On lap three Jeff Solinger, Justin Sax, and David Lamphere spun coming in turn one, again slowing the race. The lap four caution was for Troy Johnson, spun in turn one. Watson extended his lead over Bowers through halfway with John Boyd third, Gary Eicher fourth, and Randy Hall fifth. Boyd got by Bowers for the runner up spot with two laps to go then on the final lap sixth-running Mike Kinney got way wide in turn four, losing two spots. At the checkers it was Watson, Boyd, Bowers, Eicher, and Hall.
Jimmy Kennerknecht and Kyle Couchenour were on the front row of the Nelson Lynwood Nursery Street Stock finale and ran side by side for lap one with Kennerknecht taking the lead in lap two. Caution flew on lap three when Joe Rohrer came to a halt in turn four. Kennerknecht led the field back to green with Couchenour second and and a battle for third between John Boardman and Paul Nelson. At the end of lap five Couchenour got into the turn four wall, sliding to a stop as the rest of the field took evasive action. Everybody managed to avoid contact and Couchenour was able to rejoin the race. Kennerknecht again led after green over Boardman with Tony Marotto fighting off the challenge of Wesley McCray until he spun in turn four at halfway. At twelve complete McCray and Boardman were fighting for second with Boardman solidly in the spot with one lap to go when Justin Pratt spun in turn two, setting up a one lap dash for the finish. Kennerknecht led the final lap with Boardman holding off McCray for second. Gary Fisher was fourth with Paul Nelson fifth.
Doug Eck drew the pole position for the 29-lap Dick Litz Memorial for the Zimmer Service Center United Late Model Series with Chad Wright starting outside front row. Max Blair and Mike Maresca, the current ULMS points leader, made up the second row. Eck pulled to the immediate lead with Blair following him to second and then the lead by the end of lap two. In turn two Brandon Groters spun into the outside wall but was able to continue despite heavy sheet metal damage to the right rear quarter panel. At the same time Wyatt Scott spun in turn three but was not charged with the caution since it was already out for Groters. Blair pulled out to the lead with Chad Wright coming to second over Eck. Mike Maresca was third at the end of four laps with Dave Hess fourth and fast qualifier Chub Frank fifth. Hess got by Maresca then spun in turn one with eight complete. Before lap nine was complete Steve Kania, Mike Smith, Kyle Knapp, Chris Hackett, Jason Dobson, and Brandon Groters all piled up in turn three. Blair, Wright, Eck, Maresca, and Frank, were the top five for the green with Blair again pulling out to the lead over Eck and Wright. Mike Wonderling Jr and Jake Finnerty got together and spun in turn one after one more lap was complete. Blair again led after green with Eck and Wright side by side through lap thirteen when Wright pulled ahead. Frank continued in fourth with Maresca fifth. At ten laps to go Blair enjoyed a full straight lead over Wright with Eck another two lengths back in third. Eck then came back to challenge Wright at twenty four laps and running second at twenty five. Maresca got next to Wright on the front straight at twenty six laps then spun heading into turn one with Andy Boozel, having no place to go, sliding into him. For the three laps remaining it was Blair, Eck, Wright, Frank, and Mike Pegher bring the field to green. Wright was second at two to go with Wyatt Scott up to fifth. At the checkers it was Blair by half a straight over Wright, Eck, Frank, and Scott.
Mitch Wright and Zack Lenart were the front row for the Johnson’s Car Care Economod fifteen lapper. Wright took off with the lead but Kyle Reinwald slammed the retaining wall coming out of turn two on lap one. Wright again led, this time completing the lap. With Lenart second until Nate Young got the spot at the end of two laps. Young spun out in turn two on lap five, slowing the field again and erasing Wright’s substantial lead. Wright lead Lenart, Geoff Conn, Eric Reinwald, and Matt Alexander to green and started again opening a lead. Reinwald was third with Ty Young up to fourth over Conn at six laps complete. Nate Young, Gary Olson, and Devin Henry got together in turn one at eight laps, halfway, for caution number three. At green Rhoades come to second but Lenart fought back, but not quite able to retake the spot. At eleven complete Rhoades took over the lead from Wright and went on to the win over Wright, Lenart, Eric Reinwald, and John Boyd.
Mitchell Rex led from the start of the Challenger feature through lap one, then it was John Zeleznick taking over after starting eighth. Jeff Nunemaker was second at halfway with Skip Jackson third. Zeleznick had a quarter lap lead with three to go with Dylan Greene challenging for third. With the white flag flying Rex and John Karash both came to a halt in turn three, slowing the event and setting up a one lap dash. Zeleznick went on to the win over Nunemaker, Greene, Jackson, and Horton.
